India: The Formation
Born 1954. Educated in India. First serious climbing at 21 — Mont Blanc, 1975, with borrowed gear and Randy Jones. Trisul at 7,120m in 1979 with Tony English. Shivling Base Camp expeditions from 1986. Founding of H.E.L.P. with Sir Edmund Hillary as Patron. A parallel career in public financial management, beginning in government audit and accounts before joining the World Bank.

2003 — 2022
The Field: World Bank, Sub-Saharan Africa
Nineteen years in post-conflict, post-crisis, and development environments across Sub-Saharan Africa. Long-term postings in Liberia (2003–2008), Ethiopia (2006–2015), Nigeria (2019–2022), and Tanzania. Member of the original PEFA indicator design team. Work spanning financial management systems, governance diagnostics, public expenditure reform, and service delivery at woreda level.
